Morphological Summary

Monotypic genus of perennial herbaceous plants in the family Commelinaceae, currently treated as a synonym of Tradescantia. Native to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. Its best-known representatives are ornamental foliage plants with lance-shaped leaves that are dark green above and purple beneath, very popular in gardens and as houseplants in Colombia and Latin America.
