Morphological Summary

Genus of cushion plants in the Apiaceae family, adapted to the Andes of Chile and Argentina. They form dense compact cushions that blend with rocks at the heights of the Puna and the Andean cordillera. Their extremely slow growth makes them among the longest-lived plants in the world.

Distribution Andes of Chile and Argentina; Puna zones and Andean cordillera above 3500 meters altitude.
Conservation Threatened by use as fuel (taquia) in Andean communities and by climate change affecting high-mountain zones.
