Genus of succulents in the Asphodelaceae family, segregated from the genus Aloe. It comprises few species of succulent shrubs with rosette or fan-shaped leaves, endemic to the Cape region of South Africa. It is valued both for its ornamental value and its ecological importance in the fynbos.

Distribution Endemic to the Cape region, South Africa; mainly in fynbos and rocky shrublands.
Conservation Some species such as Kumara plicatilis have official protection and are at risk from habitat loss.
