Genus of thorny shrubs of the family Solanaceae, known as boxthorn or wolfberry. Distributed in arid and semi-arid zones worldwide, with particular diversity in South America (especially Chile and Argentina), the Mediterranean, Africa and Asia. They produce generally red or orange berries.
